Tavern on Dean

755 Dean Street

Brooklyn, NY 11238

Dear Customers,

It is with great sadness that we must inform you that we are forced to close Tavern on Dean. We were as surprised as we are sure you are that our Landlord chose not to honor the committment of a new lease and after promising us on five separate occassions, chose to renege with less than two months remaining on the current lease. More than the numerous financial problems it has placed on us and our staff, the thing that bothers us the most is that we will be saying goodbye to our Family of Staff and Customers who have been so generous to us throught the years.

Upon first receiving the news of our Landlord's REVERSAL we thought it in our best financial interest to close the doors immediately and walk away, but, after a sleepless night, we owed it to our customers and staff the opportunity to say their proper farewells.

Michael, Mick, and Horton and ALL STAFF a Tavern on Dean want to thank you from the bottom of out hearts for your generous patronage over the past ten years and invite you to come in often over the next few weeks to hoist a glass and say farewell.

Tavern on Dean Chosen as One of Top Five Bars Where Food Is the Draw
New York Magazine

Tavern on Dean sits one block away from Prospect Heights’ main drag of Vanderbilt Avenue, but it’s well worth the stroll. Since opening in 2000, it’s become a neighborhood hangout for new and longtime residents of the area. The menu reflects the culturally diverse clientele serving solid new American fare, English pub grub, and a few soul food dishes. The country-fried chicken is crispy, the sirloin steak club with black pepper mayo and bacon is tangy, and the warm apple crisp is served a la mode. Most nights, owner Mick Pearce will greet you himself, ushering you to your choice of three dining areas, including a vast enclosed garden that is open year-round. Check out their rotating exhibits of Brooklyn artists, squirrel away to the back for a romantic dinner, or sit at the mahogany bar and watch the game. Tavern on Dean is Brooklyn at its finest, and unlike some other upscale restaurants blooming in the area, it doesn’t try to be Manhattan-over-the-bridge. — Lisa Selin Davis New York Magazine
